I think it's a good idea to have a non-writers site. I've always wanted to call myself a writer, but it isn't what I do full-time or even have time to do part of the time. Too busy putting corn on the table...
JJ.Hall,
Mar 2004;
I know how you feel. The words piling up in folders and old storage boxes and it looking like they'll never see the light. That work, that energy. I used to spend loads of time writing and later, planning set aside blocks of time when I'd write. Now, the stories, and poetry, the folders, the odd and even pages I've written just cross my mind. If thinking about writing is being a writer then I'm still in with a chance...

Pleased I'm not alone. There must be more of you out there. Still. I'm not brave enough to submit any of my work at the moment but I'm thinking of writing something new to submit.

Your certainly not alone. Hey! Unheard keep the faith!

Just cutting up! Online writing group. Great idea. Where are the writers?

Where are the readers. I've actually attended creative writing courses in the past, but more to help me to work with folks who'll hear and understand my scribing. Get in feedback is so so important - what say you!
M. Harvey,

...certainly is critical to get good honest feedback, so long as you can take it..ha ha...

Oh, I can take it, got to if I want to improve my stuff and all that. You need to be able to take the rough and the, yeah well, you know where I'm coming in from. Once this girl, and she could write, said one of my poems had no shape OR form. That it just seemed to keep repeating. Took some time to get to grips with that but after a little I could see it...at times it's tough.

I find I'm writing little and often recently. Can't stick to one subject so I end up with lots of bits and pieces but I figure these will amount to something at some time and I do think the most important thing is to just keep writing.

Just keep writing, I can go with that. Someone I heard the other day, a successful author none-the-less, was saying her top tip was to keep writing, didn't really matter what you wrote or for how long. Writing everyday was the thing to do.
SimonMann, August 2004, UK;
Good to see the writing keeps trickling in...almost inspired, but not quite yet...so keep it coming and you never know, one of these days I mights finally cross over.
SandraSo, October 2004, US;I'd go further than almost inspired. But, I'm wid you on the contribution side. Some day I'll get me some courage to do that.

[on the challenge facing new writers] wrote; "We are competing for their [The audience’s] leisure time and worse yet, our tools are literary works, which is a real task. If I can get my literary point across at the same time [as being inane and humorous] then my goal has been completed. We have to compete with so many forms of entertainment in a generation that watches too much television; we are literally starving. New artists have to entertain in new forms and write groundbreaking prose in order to get shared with all other entertainment.

...remember not to discredit the work that paves the road behind you. This work is important to reflect upon in order to bring your writing further. Look at this in the endeavor factor. Something you write and love today is the same piece you will be slapping yourself in the head for in years from now. This is the work that prepares you for the next story, and so on and so forth. The writing will get better and better until you reach your capability. It is all very painful, and the better you get the more painful it becomes, like pulling out a needle in exchange for a nail. But it is all very necessary. If you didn't go through the pain then how could you write the stories? :-)
