| Do you write what you yourself would like to read or is your audience always on your mind when you write?
I write what I would like to read and what I believe an audience would like. I go with my gut: If my heart "forces" me to write a particular piece, I write it. I believe all my stories have an audience.
| Are you a black writer or is your writing black? |
I'm a writer who just happens to be black.
| How versatile do you consider yourself to be as a writer?
As my writing skills develop, I believe I'm becoming more versatile. Although I love fiction, I've gotten pretty good at writing personal essays and humor pieces. Also, I don't want to "confine" myself to one genre because I love other genres, such as science fiction and horror. In the future, I want to tackle a suspense or horror piece.
| When fame comes your way and you have a chance to speak to your public what will you say? |
Boy, do I love that "when" word. Sounds better than "if." That's a tough question to answer, though. I'll just be myself. I know I will try to recognize individuals and groups that have helped in my success. There's a lot of people to thank. I also hope to give tips to other writers trying to come up. Of course, I''ll talk about my books, too.
