FEATURED POETRY - ARCHIVE

Rush FM

Suddenly the voices emerged,
making it through the clicks and fuzz of static,
fragments forming into the coherent sound
of less coherent speakers.
Local broadcasting to the local population,
Rush FM.

Rush. Radical.
Representing messages of truth,
discussing the issues of real people living real lives.
Rush.
Keeping it real,
slow talking Rush.
Real-Rush.

Suddenly the voices faded,
Replaced by a conventional commercial station.
Professional broadcasting,
A branded product selling branded products,
Interspersed with music for the masses.
Fast talking, keeping it “real”
(as focus groups had revealed the listeners liked to say).

Again, the signal drifted
and the rough, rogue, Rush tones
regained the air waves,
stark the contrast.

The voices were back.
Scattering words like a dusty rag to smear the commercial shine.
Sour speakers,
self-styled prophets of truth,
Rush FM.
Rejoice.
For Real radio.
