WORK OF THE MONTH - ARCHIVE
You see the sweet and natural things-in-life
The baby boy waves to the train,
Like your baby boy – when he was a baby.
And it reminds you of the laughter you’re shared
along the way.
The train half empty mid-afternoon ignores all
acknowledgement
So do I, the weary traveller.
Pulling into the station,
Terminus of this chapter of my life
Feeling as we come to rest,
Like I’ve been here
a hundred times
Over familiar,
so I stop noticing the every day
All the time,
trying to hear that quiet calm voice
Somewhere inside this place.
And a couple of friends
meet after I don’t know ‘how long’,
Screaming 'oh, there you are!'
and running to clasp each other
Tight embrace.
Loud enough to alert the world
to the missing they’ve done
Deprived of each others company.
Uninhibited enough to express
themselves.
Another couple have suit cases
and I wonder where they’ve come from
Could be going to,
but perhaps the important question is
For how long?
Interesting;
how you see surroundings differently
as they form different parts of
your journey
point of arrival
or place you’re gonna leave.
One day an office,
Next day a place of work.
I’m heading home.
Not as in mortar and bricks,
More a feeling,
Where the heart is
Where I belong emotionally
Oh inner strength, flap your wings,
carry me
Back! To the sweet and natural things in life.
