Behind The Scenes: Ceremony
"Ceremony"
Sweet, caramel lips gently brush against mineAuthor Notes
It's also interesting and useful to get a glimpse at what's going on behind the scenes. To see the process of creativity during which learning occurs as the new writer practices their craft.
In Jowana Michell's case, we are witnessing the development of writing, as she endeavours to make the transition from writing short stories to writing poetry. The poem above is adapted from one of Jowana's stories, excerpt below:"His sweet, caramel lips gently brushed against mine while his tongue slid into my mouth as I entered his doorway. My body quivered in reaction to his touch and my back slightly arched as his hands slid down my spine. He stopped and looked into my eyes. I smiled, looking back into his. My chest slowly rose then fell in anticipation of what was coming next. I watched him as he slowly lowered his head to watch his manhood rise. I let him take my hand into his and guide it down to the direction of his glance. He let out a soft, steady moan then inhaled sharply. This was our new ceremony once we passed that awkward stage of acquaintance."
Out of interest, another angle on this is provided by Ron Price (another of our contributors) who has said, "I have also come increasingly to the view that the distinctions between prose and poetry are, in some ways, not important at all, artificial, irrelevant."
Jowanna has written other poems, which give us an insight into the development of her work, as well as showing how themes can recur in what we write. Desire was the first poem, subsequently followed by Craving.
