 Personal Creative Works of 2008

In early January 09 I asked a number of contributors to tell me the thing(s) they personally considered to be their 'most creative works of 2008'...here are some of the responses...

Sheree Mack (writer, artist)- provided the picture (left) which will grace her special edition chap book, companion to the readings she has lined up for 2009.  everydaycreativity

Suzanne Flynn (writer, musician)- "i'm not sure what my most creative bit of writing is may be you could pick one..."  CollectedWork

Petronella Breinburg (writer, author, publisher, academic)- "My creative work for 2008 is my POD published book "80 NOT OUT", a collection of six short stories, published in honour of my 80th Birthday."  Tales from a Pirate Chest

Nicole Moore (writer, editor, poet, tutor)- "As for one thing that represents my creative 'work of 2008' it would have to be an article 'Exploring Black Sexuality' that was published in the NOIR issue of Trespass Magazine in November 2008. You can check our the details on my blog posting dated Thursday 9th October. The mixed media of art and writing is why I've chosen to highlight this feature and it is a new dimension in my usual creative writing projects."  shawana-lulu

Newton Booth (writer, author)- "I would have to say the publication of my book 'Letters to Myself', for me a personal accomplishment."  water to a thirsty man

Anna Kassulke (literary consultant and editor)- "My most creative work of 2008 was a short, short story called My Excruciating Pilgrimage which was published in the Short and Twisted anthology last year. It wasn’t being published that counted – it was writing a piece of fiction that was unbelievably short and told a story – mine was 135 words exactly. Someone once said, 'If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter'. And they were right: making every word count is hard and time-consuming! At times I also agree with EM Forster, he said 'It is the vice of a vulgar mind to be thrilled by bigness'. Since my short, short story I have been keen to set up a fiction text-messaging network. Stories of 150 characters or less."  WordStory

Alretha Thomas (playwright and author)- "Daughter Denied is my greatest achievement of 2008."  novel reviewed

Vanessa Richardson (author and playwright)- put on a production in December 08..."I wanted to give to my community."  So, she staged a play, God Knows My Heart!  "I didn't charge admission. I requested food items and toys for families facing economic hardship. The turn out was sensational. The cast was superb. I was happy to see the African American community come out to show their support. We were able to feed several families. This event will always be special to me."  Venessa's first book is called The Certain Ones, author site
