Become part of the team, make your own unique contribution and help to shape the look, feel, content and tone of the site which seeks to encourage and involve new writers of colour.

About The Competition

To enter you're invited to submit a piece covering one or more of the following:

    Describe three ways in which you'd use this platform to reachout to the Unheardwords' reading / writing audience?
    Comment or feedback on work or articles featured on-site, give your views, critical, constructive, informative
    Have your say - submit an editorial, what burning issue or issues would your editorial shout out about (smile) - what will inspire new writing from new writers?

How to enter (entry is free)

Simply send your entry by email to editor@unheardwords.com, subject 'Writer in Residence'. Your entry can be included directly within the email as plain text or attached in a common form, example, Wordpad, MS Word (no more than 1,000 words).

Please provide your name or alias and an email address at which you can be easily contacted. You might want to include some information about yourself.

No more than one entry is allowed per person.

What's The Prize?

The winner of the competition will be invited to work (virtually) alongside the editor of unheardwords.com for upto three calendar months (actual period will be agreed with competition winner). During this period they will be given the opportunity to create and breathe life into one or more projects, designed to reach out to, encourage and engage the unheardwords' audience in the field of creativity, creative writing and / or the arts. The writer in residence will also have the chance to showcase their own work and write large their own creativity.

How Will My Entry Be Judged?

Each entry will be judged on its creativity; its imagination; the ability of the entrant to identify with the site’s mission and its perceived audience; the clarity of the ideas / suggestions / comments expressed. The decision of the judges will be final in every situation including any not explicitly covered and no correspondence will be entered into.

Competition Rules

The competition is open to all ages, if you are under the age of 12, you must obtain permission from your parent / guardian before entering.

The Editor accepts no responsibility for late or lost entries. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.

The winner of the competition will be invited to work (virtually) alongside the editor of unheardwords.com for upto three calendar months (actual period will be agreed with competition winner). The writer in residence will also have the chance to showcase their own work and write large their own creativity. This will not be a paid assignment. The temporary assignment as 'writer-in-residence' will not imply any rights to ownership or content of the site, the content published by the site or any associated intellectual property.

The prize will be as stated and can not be substituted; there will be no cash alternative.

The Editor reserves the right to cancel the competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in his opinion or if circumstances arise outside of his control.

Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and other terms, and to agree to be bound by them when entering this competition.

This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales. This competition is brought to you by unheardwords.com.
We reserve the right to publish selected entries. Where applicable copyright of all material published will be attributed to the entrant (it is assumed that the entry you submit is your own work, and that you have the right to grant permission to have your entry reproduced).

We will not pass on any personal details you provide to any other organisation without your permission except for the purposes of running this competition or by way of publishing your email entry in full or part.
