Dear Nearly 40 year old daughter,

Belly dancing sounds fun if you don't have a big wobbly belly to start with - I've always avoided such a pastime. However it should be good exercise. You might be able to do the dance of the seven veils before long. You always loved dressing up so I guess this new interest will give you plenty of opportunity. What fun!

We are planning a special party for you and might even invite your twin sister. She'll be amused to hear what you've been up to. Having twins in the family has always brought us great joy. You were always so different in your needs and of course the way you looked. I'm glad that you weren't identical as it gave you more chance to grow up being individuals.

It's been a wonderful experience of course and being the mother of twins always gave me a special kudos among the other mothers when you were babies. I was always more exhausted than they were. I always claimed that you, two were only one and half times the work rather than twice as much.

Come and dance for us at your party and strut your stuff. It will be fun. Our grandkids will love it. Perhaps you can give us a few lessons in grace and style of the art of belly dancing. Just think what other unusual hobbies you can take up in the years ahead.

I love you both so much. As always,

Mum.
