she wears her grief
on her face...

grief is a terrible thing
and it never goes away
and the grief on your face
really struck me
as I walked past you today...

you stood outside
a supermarket
drinking cider
at 50p a can...
you had your brother
with you...
he looks
like a broken man...

I saw in your trolley
that you had bought
some food...
I was glad your benefit money...
wasn't all wasted
on cigarettes and booze...

Then I wondered
about your home life
now that your kids
had been taken away...
then I looked
at my life
and thought 'thank god'
my life's ok...

For a woman
once a beauty
with style and grace
I'm sorry to see you
wear...
your grief on your face...
